#CANI

I love Krav Maga and the practicality it offers. You can walk out of an hour class feeling confident in the skills you learn. Those nuggets you pick up over that hour really do stick with you. I feel like over time training isn’t as quickly recalled if its not constantly reinforced. I’ve experienced it myself, gaps in my training makes me slower to pull up the different skills required for that given defense. In classes at Fortitude, we talk a lot about doing things that are important we should be doing them every day. Constant focus and practice brings you clearer in your recalling of that given information quickly and concisely. When we are in class, straight punches, inside defenses, movement are all key things to focus on doing frequently. We often say you’re only as good as your feet. If you can’t move in a fight, you will become very ineffective very quickly. If you aren’t constantly showing up to train it becomes rusty. It really is a feeling of if you don’t use it you lose it. Just like any kind of conditioning or training you have to have consistency in your given skill your it begins to deteriorate when its not given the time and attention it deserves.

Finding and continuing to find the drive to continue to learn is a mountainous journey sometimes. So many ups and downs, highs with beautiful views and lows with dark annoying despair. It can be hard to take time for yourself when life is so busy sometimes. It’s that inner voice that keeps me going. I am constantly holding myself and having the people I trust hold me accountable. Knowing every class I attend is bringing me one step closer in my journey to my martial arts goals. Understanding and believing in your “why” keeps your head in the game in those down, challenging or frustrating moments. What keeps you showing up to the things that matter in your life? I challenge you to write down your why’s in the different areas of your life. Work, relationships, fitness, if you are involved in martial arts. Why? Why do I do this? Where am I going with this? What is my end result? Is it what I want? If it’s not something that is satisfying to your soul then I challenge you to use a Krav Maga idea: Get space, assess your situation, adapt and move forward. Spend some time writing your goals down, bring them out of your head and onto paper. This is sometimes what makes the difference to continue to fight through whatever life throws at you.

Mental tenacity is something that is a key component in life. I’ve found the more clear I am about my goals, the more precision I have with my day. Prioritizing myself and getting my diet, spiritual and fitness in line helps me be a better mother and all around person. When I'm training, I love feeling the precise movements my body can do when I am in training now compared to where I was when I started. I know that comes by the constant and never improvement I am putting in. A wise martial artist was talking about coming up with the hashtag of #CANI. Constant And Never-ending Improvement. Can I continue to excel with the effort I’m putting forth in my training? Can I do one more push up? Can I show up to class tonight? Then I answer myself with Constant and Never-ending Improvement. Am I? The answer should be YES! If not, address your situation and adapt. Trust the process, trust your training, put in the time and effort. Progress not perfection, my friends, it doesn’t matter if its a crawl, just keep moving forward! If you want, please let me know your #CANI! I'd love to hear them. We can work on this journey together! You got this! KIDA!!!
